Five different questions
Read the original for perception and awakening, Reloaded for managed choice, Revolutions for interdependence, Resurrections for desire and identity, and The Animatrix for the social history of a technological conflict. Combining them into one prediction erases important differences.
A metaphor with boundaries
A feed can shape what you encounter; it cannot simply be equated with the Matrix’s direct neural control. Data centres resemble Machine City visually, but they use ordinary energy systems. The movies are philosophical experiments and political imagery, not technical evidence that humans power AI in pods.

Multiple traditions, distinct meanings
The cave, Gnostic awakening, Christian sacrifice and the concept of māyā offer different comparisons. They should not be collapsed into a single secret teaching. The Index uses them as readings of the films, not claims that every tradition describes the same literal machine world.
Beyond the first awakening
The sequels suggest that discovering a false world does not finish the inner work. Pride, attachment and the desire for an absolute victory can reproduce the very conflict an awakened hero hopes to escape.
