Four labels. Four different claims.
A verified fact can support a comparison without verifying the movie’s fictional mechanism. Each connection gets the label that matches its actual evidential status.
A supported similarity between fiction and reality. It does not establish prediction or cause.
Example: a connected robot fleet resembles the network in I, Robot. The similarity does not establish a real VIKI or identical architecture.
An editorial psychological, philosophical, religious or esoteric reading.
Example: a portal can represent rebirth or a false creator can invite a Gnostic reading. That interpretation is offered by the Index.
An unproven idea, disputed inference, or fictional mechanism without adequate real-world support.
Example: a film contains advance disclosure of a disaster. Without evidence of foreknowledge and a specific, testable match, this remains unproven.
Similarity, given a number.
The Prophecy Score is an editorial measure of the entry’s strongest supported connection. It is not a probability of prediction, a scientific measurement, or a claim that filmmakers possessed secret knowledge.
Five criteria receive whole-number ratings from 0 to 5. Ratings are multiplied by the weights below and added. The weights sum to 20, making the maximum score 100. Symbolic richness never substitutes for evidence.

Novelty is judged at the relevant original release. An adaptation does not get credit for inventing an idea already present in its source book. Saga and cross-media guides use their stated date range and disclose the older context. Precedent research is bounded, so novelty ratings are provisional.
Evidence for a narrow real development cannot support a broad fictional claim. Where the central literal claim is unsupported or contradicted, that limits the evidence and similarity ratings. Every entry’s Evidence tab shows its calculation and the reason for each rating.
One score cannot say everything.
Five separate 0–5 ratings describe the work. They are not added to the Prophecy Score. These are interpretive editorial judgments, not validated psychological or scientific scales.
Technological accuracy
How closely the relevant mechanism resembles demonstrated technology, within its actual limits.
Social accuracy
How well the entry illuminates supported institutional, political or economic dynamics.
Psychological accuracy
How coherent and useful the reading of motivation, identity and behavior is; not a diagnosis or clinical validation.
Symbolic depth
How richly the work supports an articulated mythic, philosophical or spiritual reading.
Speculation level
How much the central real-world extension relies on unproven claims. Higher means more conjecture, not a stronger forecast.
For the first four dimensions: 0 means no supported fit, 3 a meaningful but limited fit, and 5 a strong fit within the stated lens. For speculation: 0 requires little conjecture, 3 requires significant extrapolation, and 5 depends on extraordinary unestablished claims.
Make the evidence inspectable.
- Prefer primary evidence. Use scientific papers, agency reports, public records, original texts and official film records. A company announcement establishes what a company says; it does not independently validate its ambitions.
- State the scope. A laboratory result, a participant study and a deployed product are different kinds of evidence. A philosophical argument or religious text establishes an idea or tradition, not its empirical truth.
- Preserve disagreements and limits. A proposed hypothesis is not a confirmed discovery. The pages distinguish limited language effects from determinism, neural decoding from mind uploading, and real geology from hollow-world lore.
- Separate dates and versions. A release year is not the movie’s fictional year. Book details, anthology stories and film adaptations are identified separately. Scenes are paraphrased; no dialogue or timestamps are invented.
- Test an alleged prediction before explaining it. Record the exact prior claim, event, date, place, mechanism and matching rule. Count misses and possible comparisons. Do not choose a convenient event after seeing the outcome.
- Make interpretation visible. A spiritual lens may be meaningful without being a factual explanation. Do not treat a montage, meme, anonymous post or coincidence as proof.
A reviewed snapshot, with room to revise.
This first edition contains 25 entries and five overlapping collections. The Top 10 is the brief’s curated reading order, not a descending score ranking. Matrix subpages are additional entries; Terminator Salvation has one page linked from multiple collections.
The reference review is dated 7 September 2026. Some sources provide historical context; the site does not claim live coverage. Scores may change when better evidence appears. Citation notes explain the specific use of a source rather than implying that it endorses the full essay.
